Alt 1977 – Alex Varanese

Stumbled upon this wicked series that re-imagines 1977 as if the tech from today existed then. View the full set

Rocking Teapot

Betina Piqueras has designed The Rocking Teapot a nifty little product that helps you pour and serve your tea.

It's a pretty straight-forward idea, instead of trying to pick up a boiling hot teapot with shaky hands you can now let The Rocking Teapot do all the work for you. Click here to see more.

Diagram of the Heart x Village Green

Village Green, Diagram Of The Heart are the latest summer time duo ramping up and across the interweb with their electro pop anthem Dead Famous (out 5th July). The first signings to the legendary and recently resurrected Deconstruction label (Black Box, Robert Miles, The Grid...) Kye Sones and Anthony Gorry are going to be massive. Trust. It’s that sun drenched electro that crosses over perfectly... their licensing guy must be laughing. We stood spectacle to one of their early shows at YoYo, and if you take Kanye’s lead, kids throwing up (gang) band, heart hand signs before a single has even been released... well, must be a good sign of things to come. But back to Village Green, their inventive deconstructed / reconstructed design vibe for Fabric, Beck’s Fusions, Mark Ronson and that exploding egg cover for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are pretty stellar, so check them out alongside DOTH (Michael Woods Remix is available on Beatport now) as soon as.

Max Spencer

Max Spencer was Protein's super intern a month back. Coming all the way up from Falmouth to spend a month at the Protein offices this barely-turned 20-year-old left an inimitable mark on the Protein Journal (basically designing the entire magazine and taking care of the centre spreads) and our fam as a whole. Cheers Max ... and cheers to our NY family The KDU for the intros. He's launched a new site with some new work up there so go check it and get your cheque books out.

Alice meets the iPad

Alice in Wonderland meets the iPad. The other day I had a meeting at a major publisher to discuss this very thing. Not Alice in Wonderland but the way in which books can become more interactive, social and engaging across devices. Alice for the iPad just scratches the surface.

thesixtyone

I’ve been tracking thesixtyone for a bit. The first version of the site matched social gaming with music discovery. The newest incarnation has taken a slightly different approach one which is more discovery focused with a mix of simple challenges called quests that encourage you to listen to music and gain reputation points.

The part I love about the new design is the simplicity and richness of the interface.
