Bikes?

Afternoon gents, so I've realised a car is a good way to piss away a lot of cash on petrol & insurance and is more hassle than it's worth with parking in a city etc. and I'm on the look out for a decent bike to get me about.

Wondering if anyone had any experience with single speed bikes such as this lovely looking one or knew of anything similar, ideally a bit cheaper and without the hassle of importing it from Norway!

If you don't want to piss away money, just buy a second hand bike and keep it well looked after.

...funny you should mention it, just came accoss an ad for this bloke near me today, who puts together second hand bikes to order. Might give him a call tomorrow morning.

yes indeed. it's all about the fixies. was going to pick up one of these in san francisco a while back, but then thought i better keep it more home grown.

Now that's a beautiful looking bike right there. Proper track fixies are a bit out of my price range though and the lack of brakes scares me a bit!

Probably going to go with a classic 80s racing frame & drop handle bars, get a second hand one sandblasted and re-sprayed a nice solid colour. Keeping it simple, no messy graphics or suspension and not a billion low range gears like a mountain bike...

So you got a fixie then Will or thinking of getting one?

well, i was going to get one 18 months ago, but then realised everyone in shoreditch/san fran had one. now looking at getting one of these:

haha, fair play. i probably live in a city with far too many hills, although compared to san fran...

niice, at least you don't to have pedal that. i'd get one of these though, for that real lawrence of arabia look.

yes indeed. there's one parked outside my yard as we speak. very good looking bike.

I'm a dedicated Mountain Biker. Very uncool I know, but that's me. And I am surrounded by class single track...

BTW have blown the seals on my 3rd pair of marzocchi forks in 3 months. Might have to change to Rock Shox.

of course, if you did get a triumph you're pretty much obliged to dress like this man.

matt, nothing against mountain bikes, i just realised living in a city i'm never really hitting anything rougher than the odd discarded kebab remains...

That ticks all the hipster boxes: single speed, leather brooks saddle, white tyres. Perfect.

Also, to follow up on my original post, I ended up buying an 80s Peugeot road bike and giving it a good clean up and sort out. Sings up hills and screams down them. Just.

sounds perfect for your move to town ... that's if you're up for taking on the mean streets of london.

I've still got your battered, stripped beach cruiser frame on my balcony Will...any takers?

I got the girl one of these for Christmas. It's nice.

My next bike, I want something classic. I'm not fussed on fixie, I like being able to free-wheel and break easy, but I'd like something simple. Thin and clean frame. Some of the bianchi's look nice.

Hi

People are saying Charge for the singlespeed as good value for money. Personally I managed to get a RAW Cannondale and will never ever look back now - gorgeous

I've just bought a 5 speed 1980's Peugeot racer for £50 on Ebay runs like a dream - light as a feather. Understand these are widely available.

I've had these before and they last for ever. Roll on sunshine.

P.s. am Selling Kartell & vintage to pay for it!

if i take the front wheels off of my bikes, i can get a mountain bike and a road bike in the back seat of my 1995 Crown Vic, plus one in the trunk (front wheel off). If i don't want to take any wheels off, i can get one in the back seat, no problem.
